Killing big animals anyone????

I know all of you have been holding your breath...waiting in anticipation... hoping... wishing... and praying for the ever coveted Wyoming area 97 elk tag. Wait in anticipation no longer, I have one. Yes, Isaac Borema and I are going to the great state of Wyoming this fall for the hunt of a lifetime hunting Elk with my former boss and friend Dave. I will keep you updated on the plans, but you can bet there will be fresh meat later this fall.
I have had some extra time the past few weeks so I thought it would be a good idea for me to build a "chuck box" to put our camping pans/silverware/plates in for storage. The design on the box is not an original but I compiled a few different images into the design. I burned the designs into the wood and varnished it. It is ready for an exciting summer of camping enjoyment.
There is a removable shelf on the top.
Bison and of course the great De Jong name had to be on the box somewhere.
FYI: for those wondering about the picture that was on my blog earlier no I did not take that one. I have replaced it with a picture that I did take and, although it may not be as good, is very nice also.

John, you are definitely a unique individual. You know why? I'll tell you why. Because when people have 'free time' most people do other things - exercise, watch TV (although that is lamest thing anyone could ever do with free time and the average house watches 8 hrs of it a day!) clean, or go to the park. What does John do?

DUH, you idiot! Build a Chuck Box!

I had no idea such a thing existed until I just saw one. I must say that I am impressed buddy. How did you get all that burning in so precise?! That is pretty sweet, esp. the huge DE JONG on the top. You gotta represent.

My brother is big into that stuff too...he just got a moose and an Elk in AK last fall. He was stoked. I wish I could have gone. I would be good for eating the meat and carrying the ammo / kills?

I hope you have to buy a new freezer for all the meat!! Whooo-ahhhh!!!

I love the new photo, especially because it's a De Jong original. The chuck box looks amazing. I remember Brenda telling me you were working on it, and it's exceeded my expectations. It's really...well...pretty! :)

I can't believe you're going elk hunting in Wyoming. Like you said, I'm sure it will be the hunt of a lifetime. I can already see Ben turning green with envy over that trip!

About Brett, you better watch yourself, man.

Ok, I'm totally impressed with your chuck box. Way nicer than our rubbermade. I too am impressed with the intricate details of the burning. Great job! See you next weekend!

Just curious, where are you planning on storing all this fresh meat?
And, no, we are not getting a new freezer.
Your wife.

I have thought that out, but do not think that you are ready to hear the ideas quite yet. By the way, have I told you how good you look today.

I am so proud of your ablilty to create something instead of buying it. It is a beautiful box and will be the envy of all at the hunt. Good thing you put your name on it in BIG letters.

Boy what box. Do you need a big 4 wheel drive pick-up to go with that. I have one. Awesome box. Maybe we should go into production on this and sell them out front of Home Depot in the mornings when people are looking for jobs. After all they may be homeless and need a place to store things and portable kitchen. Tell wife to not worry about the freezer idea. This too will probably pass as do most things with De Jong blood running in your veins. Let me see my male offspring:
Paint
Hike
Fish
Camp
Surf
Ski
Run up mountains
Play shot gun golf
Write stories
Build decks
Hunt
Fly planes
Ride motor cycles
Sail boats
Bow hunt
What is next?

I suppose you will cure the meat the Indian way by drying strips of it on the fense , tree's and any other available surface in your back yard. Then you have to throw the skull on the roof to dry. Just like they do in Toppenish. Great box..
I also have a 4X4 available for sale,... cheaper than Pat's.

Wow! You got your Wyoming elk tag! That's pretty cool and I am quite envyous. I can hardly wait for your blog post next fall from elk hunting camp. Imagine the pictures and the stories you will have to share with us all then.

Also, Wow! That chuck box is amazing! Really nice work on that. I am more than a little bit impressed.

Lastly, I think it would be really cool, if when you get your bull elk, you hang the skull and antlers on the outside wall of your apartment. It will be just like you are back in Washington. Your neighbors will love it!
